Have any tips on where this shop might have been located? Or who the owner might have been? Or any memories related to either? Please drop me a line.
The fact that this shop has an address on it should have made finding it relatively easy. And yet, it is still among those I have classified as "location unknown." But what is that first digit in the address on the awning anyway? 3? 8? 2? At one point I thought it must be "387 Broadway" (I no longer recall why), leading me to head to the southern end of the winding street to find the address. That turned out to be a false lead. Then I thought to try Lexington, as I remembered that certain parts of the avenue sloped a bit the way the sidewalk did in Gerry's illustration. But that did not lead to anything either. Then I began to wonder if perhaps the shop and its former neighbors had all been swallowed up by a larger structure, making it impossible to ever find it. But perhaps I'll try combing other long avenues, looking for 387, 887, or 287?
