Have any tips on where this shop might have been located? Or who the owner might have been? Or any memories related to either? Please drop me a line.
The site and fate of this bagel shop with the jaunty purple script remain, like the purpose of the dancing dots above each capital “J,” shrouded in mystery. The building on the left side of Jo Jo’s, with its Spanish-tiled roof and low, barred window to the right of the door, struck me as the sort of eclectic architecture one sometimes finds in the West Village. That hunch inspired hours of wandering through the neighborhood’s meandering lanes. Although I did not encounter anything resembling the space out of which Jo Jo’s Bagelry used to operate, I did meet a few out-of-towners who asked me for directions, mistaking me for someone who knew where they were going.
