Pink European Nail Boutique, C.B.K. Cookies, and Roosters Flowers each occupied this spot of Columbus Avenue at some point over the course of the 1990s. The last, Roosters, was succeeded by another flower shop, Posies, which has been there ever since.
Sometime around the Christmas holidays in 2015, I stopped by Posies, the flower shop that now occupies the space where Roosters Flowers used to be. Because of the compressed size of the shop, the scents emanating from the freshly cut carnations, roses, and amaryllis, interspersed with all variety of pine branches nearly overwhelmed me, as did the speed with which the women were moving through the shop, cutting stems, taking orders on the phone, and tying bows on bouquets and baskets of various sizes. When I showed one of the employees a picture of Roosters Flowers and asked if anyone knew anything about it, she looked up from her work and smiled, telling me that she used to work at Roosters. Eureka! She told me to come back another, less harried time, perhaps after the holidays, and she would tell me about it. Sadly, I waited too long; when I returned several months later no one at the shop could recall any employee who had worked at Roosters previously. An email to the current owner of Posies went unanswered.
